Changing the designated premises supervisor
Every premises that authorises the sale of alcohol must specify a person for the role of DPS (Designated Premises Supervisor). You can only apply to change the DPS if you are the premises licence holder.
- If the premises licence is held in a company name, then you must apply in the name of the company
- If the premises licence is held by an individual, then you must apply as an individual.
How to apply
To apply to change the DPS of a premises you will need to complete:
Note: In order to begin the application process you will need your 'online reference number' which can be located on your premises licence, on our public register, or by obtained contacting us.
Before you submit your application, you must also provide the following supporting documentation:
- •The DPS consent form which must be completed and signed by the proposed DPS. (PDF) [27KB]
- A copy of the personal alcohol licence of the proposed DPS
- A copy of the premises licence.
Once you have uploaded the required supporting documentation you will be prompted to pay the application fee:

Note: If for any reason your application cannot be accepted and must be rejected, any fees paid are non-refundable.
How long will it take to process
There are set timescales stated in the legislation for determining a change of designated premises supervisor. If Merseyside Police do not object to your application, it is automatically granted after 14 days. If you application receives objections it will be decided at a Licensing Sub-Committee hearing.
I want to remove myself as the DPS of a premises
If you wish to remove yourself as the DPS of a premises, you can do so by completing the removal of DPS application form (PDF) [29KB] and returning it to us by email.
There is no charge for this process.

If you are not experienced in the submission of licence applications, you may wish to consider contacting a licensing solicitor or licensing agent to carry out this work on your behalf. If applications are submitted incorrectly or are not of the required standard, they may be rejected and you will lose your fee.
