Business rates - freedom of information
We often receive requests for information relating to businesses and non-domestic properties, under the Freedom of Information Act 2000.
To reduce the number of similar requests, the most commonly requested information is published below.
These reports are refreshed on a regular basis.
Data limitations
Ratepayers' names are only provided for companies and government bodies (rp_type C) and not for individuals (rp_type P) due to Data Protection Act restrictions.
Correspondence addresses have been excluded as these have been provided for business rate purposes only. Registered office addresses are already available at Companies House.
Specific account references are not included as these are personal to the account, and are used to verify the account holder when contacting the council.
Disclosure of credit information is withheld under section 31(1) (a) as it would prejudice the prevention of crime. Placing a list of unclaimed business rates credits in the public domain would be an invitation to those seeking to defraud the council and the businesses who are legitimately owed the credit.
