New Director for Adult Social Services in St Helens Borough appointed

She will replace Rachel Cleal who will be retiring after a number of years at St Helens Borough Council in the role.

Jamaila brings with her a wealth of experience as she is currently Corporate Director of Adult Social Care and Integration at City of York Council since 2021. Her previous roles include Director Prevention and Commissioning and Director Lead - Education and Skills, Quality Assurance and Contract Management at City of York Council.

In 2021 she was seconded to the post of Deputy Chief Officer of integration with Lancashire and South Cumbria NHS Trust and earlier roles include Deputy Director of Strategy & Partnerships at NHS Cheshire CCG, Associate Director of Commissioning at NHS South Cheshire & NHS Vale Royal Clinical Commissioning Group, and Head of Strategic Commissioning and Contracting across Adults, Children's Services & Public Health with Cheshire West & Chester Council. 

Jamaila spent her early career in social work positions across local government and NHS in adult care.

Welcoming her to the new role Council Leader Councillor David Baines said: "I'm delighted to welcome Jamaila to St Helens Borough Council. This role is an incredibly important one that oversees the largest proportion of our overall revenue budget delivering hundreds of services that help residents make the most of their lives.

"Whether helping to keep older people living in their own homes safely or providing adults who need extra support to live independent lives, Jamaila's department will touch the lives of so many of our residents and we're lucky to have someone with an impressive background of experience from both local government and health care perspectives. We'd like to thank Rachel for her service, delivering for our residents at times in their life when they are often most vulnerable."

Jamaila will start the role at the end of the year.
