Getting married - what you need to know
Plan your ceremony
Here's a guide to the steps you should take as you plan your marriage or civil partnership ceremony in St Helens.
Choose a venue
Civil ceremonies
If you're planning a civil ceremony, we have a range of licensed venues in St Helens, including our Ceremony Room, Council Chamber and Assembly Hall at St Helens Town Hall. A celebrant and registrar will be present to perform and witness your ceremony.
Religious ceremonies
If you're planning a religious ceremony, you will need to contact your vicar, priest or religious minister to book your service.
Book your ceremony
Once you have chosen your venue, you will need to provisionally book the date and time of your ceremony.
There is a non-refundable booking fee that confirms the date, time, and place of your ceremony.
Give notice
By law, you need to 'give notice' of your intention to marry. Your ceremony booking will only be confirmed once you have attended your notice of marriage appointment.

Pay for your ceremony
All fees are payable no later than 8 weeks before your ceremony date. Any bookings made within 8 weeks of the ceremony date must be paid in full at the time of booking. If your ceremony fee is not paid by the due date, a late payment fee will be added to your booking.
