Blackbrook by-election

Blackbrook ward local by-election - Thursday 12 December 2024

Following the death of a councillor in the Blackbrook ward, two electors have now requested an election be held to fill the vacancy and elect a new councillor for the ward.

A by-election will take place on Thursday 12 December 2024. Poll cards will be delivered from Friday 8 November 2024, please check your poll card for information about your polling station or postal vote.

How to vote in the Election

If you are not already registered to vote, the deadline to register is midnight on Tuesday 26 November 2024, you can register online at gov.uk/register-to-vote or by contacting our Elections Team on 01744 676464. 

Voting at the Polling Station

If you are voting at the polling station the law now requires you to provide an accepted form of photo ID before being provided with your ballot paper.

What is Acceptable Photo ID?

All acceptable forms of Photo ID are listed at sthelens.gov.uk/voter-id, or can be found at electoralcommission.org.uk/voting-and-elections/voter-id

If you do not have an acceptable form of Photo ID you can apply for a FREE VOTER ID to enable you to vote, the deadline to apply for the Blackbrook by-election is Wednesday 4 December 2024 at 5pm.

Prefer to vote by post?

You can now apply for a postal vote online at gov.uk/apply-postal-vote, the deadline to apply for a postal vote for this election is 5pm on Wednesday 27 November 2024.

We would recommend that any elector who is going on holiday from Saturday 30 November 2024 and will not return before Thursday 12 December 2024, should make an application to appoint another person as a proxy, you can apply online at gov.uk/apply-proxy-voteThe deadline to make a proxy application is 5pm on Wednesday 4 December 2024.  The person appointed as a proxy, must be registered to vote and they will need to show their (the proxy not the elector) Photo ID before they are issued with a ballot paper.
