Green Flag Award Parks quality standard
St Helens Borough Council is committed to improving the standard of our parks and open spaces.
What is a Green Flag Award®?
The Green Flag is an international award that recognises well managed parks and green spaces, setting the benchmark standard for the management of recreational outdoor spaces, having good environmental standards, being well maintained and providing clean and safe visitor facilities. Purpose & aims
- To ensure that everybody has access to quality green and other open spaces, irrespective of where they live.
- To ensure that these spaces are appropriately managed and meet the needs of the communities that they serve.
- To establish standards of good management.
- To promote and share good practice amongst the green space sector.
- To recognise and reward the hard work of managers, staff and volunteers.
The Green Flag Award is managed under license from the UK Government Department for Levelling Up, Housing & Communities by Keep Britain Tidy who also administers the scheme in England. Keep Britain Tidy sub licence the scheme to be delivered in other countries.
St Helens Borough Council is proud to reward the work and efforts we all put in, from the parks team, grounds maintenance, the volunteers, the ward councillors and the council as a whole. As a council we don't celebrate our achievements enough so this year's announcements of gaining four Green Flag Awards are something to shout about! Victoria Park has had the Green Flag award since 2014.
St Helens have achieved 4 Green Flag awards in total, they are Victoria Park, Taylor Park, Mesnes Park and the Green Flag Community award for the Friends of St Helens Cemetery.
