Taking place between 7-13 October, Green Libraries Week celebrates libraries with a focus on the climate and sustainability, while encouraging communities to continue working towards being more sustainable and support the climate action cause.

From environmentally friendly activities such as bird feeder crafts, Lego challenges, to themed Read & Rhyme Times sessions supported by the council's road safety team - who will also be delivering after school road safety sessions - there's plenty happening in the borough's network of seven libraries, where members of the council's recycling team will also be based to provide information and tips to help increase household recycling rates.

Meanwhile, the library service's outreach team will be out in local communities during the week, visiting food pantries, leisure centres, wellbeing groups, allotments, and other venues to promote the physical and digital services that St Helens Library Service has to offer.

Councillor Kate Groucutt, St Helens Borough Council's Cabinet Member for Business, Culture and Leisure, said: "Our library service plays such an influential role when it comes to highlighting a number of awareness campaigns throughout the year, with Green Libraries Week among the most important of the lot right now, given the global climate emergency which means we all need to play our part to help protect the planet.

"I'm delighted to see this programme of events that have been tailored to suit the interests of children and young people, who are among our biggest audience as a library service, to get this important message across in a fun and captivating way."
