Life Beyond Diagnosis

During Alzheimer's Society Dementia Awareness Week, visitors to  all St Helens Borough libraries were able to see a unique temporary 'newspaper' art exhibition, and pick up a special newspaper of their own. Life Beyond Diagnosis was initiated by Open Eye Gallery as part of the Culture Shifts programme and was a collaborative project between photographer Tadhg Devlin and the Merseyside-based Service User Reference Forum (SURF) Dementia Network Group.

Buckle My Shoe

During Alzheimer's Society Dementia Awareness Week, local artist Jacqui Priestley showcased her new audio-visual sculpture Buckle My Shoe. This new piece of work extended Jacqui's interest and exploration of human memory. Jacqui's work brought together animation based on the Addenbrooks Cognitive Dementia Assessment tool, archival footage, and sound from Rossendale Memory Choir.

Cartoonopolis

2017 IMAGES

Lewis Bray presented a story of two brothers, one family, goodies, baddies, and autism. Told alongside this theatrical fantasy world is a real story about living with autism, and how, alongside his Mum and Dad, Jack sees the family's highs and lows and their ability to pull together through adversity.

Theatre Book - Macbeth

2017 IMAGES

Theatre Book - Macbeth was an augmented reality pop-up book bringing the Scottish Play to life with miniature projection mapping. Created by Davy and Kristin McGuire, the multimedia book featured six pop-up pages designed like stage sets. Davy and Kristin are British/German multidisciplinary artists famous for their experiments in digital projection and storytelling.

Wealth is Health

2017 IMAGES

Wealth is Health was a variety production performed by Collective Encounters' Third Age Acting Company, written by Sarah Thornton and directed by Amanda Redvers-Rowe. The production used comedy, songs, music, tableaux, and naturalistic sketches to engage the audience in the debate around health and wealth inequalities.

Wilde Without the Boy & The Ballad of Reading Gaol

2017 IMAGES

Gerard Logan performed a dramatization of 'De Profundis', the letter Oscar Wilde wrote in 1897 to his lover, Lord Alfred Douglas. This work was performed alongside Wilde's heart-rendering poem reflecting on his two years hard labour at Reading Gaol.

Created for public spaces and influenced by video games and reality tv, First Person was a quirky fusion of fast paced narrative, physical theatre, and silent disco technology. Audiences were invited to grab their headphones, predict a winner, and cheer them on to the finish line!

Much Ado About Puffin

Using skilful puppetry, beautiful music, and good old-fashioned storytelling, Much Ado About Puffin was a family friendly tale about old habits, new friendships and stepping out into the unknown.

Horny Handed Tons of Soil

Inspired by the eclectic work of Adrian Henri, this work explored the myth, the magic and the reality of Liverpool over the past fifty years as it was transformed by destruction, construction, rebellion and grass roots creativity.

Rudyard Kipling's The Just So Stories

With live music, songs, puppetry and host of curious characters, the classic tales by Rudyard Kipling were brought to life for all the family in this new adaptation developed for children aged 4-7.
