People's Services - Home to School Travel
The information you have supplied on your Home to School Transport Application Form is collected by St Helens Borough Council, who is the Data Controller for the purposes of the Data Protection Act. The data you provide is processed for the following purposes:
The types of pupil information we collect, hold and share includes:
- Personal information including name of pupil, date, address and parent/carer details.
- The educational needs of a pupil if applicable
- Entitlement to Free Schools/and or Qualifying Benefit if applicable
Why we collect and use this information
The lawful basis on which we use this information is:
- To assess a pupil's eligibility to free travel assistance in accordance with the Education Act 1996 and Education and Inspections Act 2006
- If information is not supplied applications for home to school travel assistance cannot be processed
Who we share pupils' information with
We may share pupil's information with:
- The Department for Education (DfE)
- Health Authority
- HMRC
- Other departments within St Helens Borough Council, such as Social Care, Education Welfare, School Admissions, Safeguarding and Free School Meals.
- The Police
- Other Local Authorities
- Transport Operators
- School Transport Passenger Assistants
Why we share pupils' information
We do not share information about a pupil to anyone without consent unless the law and our policies allow us to do so.
We share pupils' data to ensure the health, safety and welfare of the individual and to ensure we protect the council's liability to protect the public funds it administers.
How we store and transfer the date and information
The pupil's school travel application form along with any supporting information is stored securely by the School Transport Team electronically. Any data shared outside the team will be transferred in a secured and electronic format.
We will only retain pupil data as per details:
- Children who are subject to Child Protection or Looked after Children information will be retained in accordance with appropriate legislation
- Children who have an Education Health or Care Plan or have had a Statement of Educational Needs, information will be retained until they reach the age of 35 years.
- All other children, information will be retained until they are 25 years of age or 15 years after they leave education, which ever this the longest.
