Inclusive Sport & Physical Activity
The Active Lives & Sports Development team works to tackle inequalities and improve access to opportunities for people to be active in environments that are inclusive, safe and accessible. We want to support local clubs to provide enjoyable experiences for their members, increasing confidence, motivation and sustained participation. Sport England's 'Uniting the Movement' highlights that participation levels are lower among certain groups including:
- Women and girls
- People with a disability or living with a long-term health condition
- People in lower socio-economic groups
- Older adults
- People that experience prejudice or discrimination such as (but not limited to) people from LGBTQ+ groups and ethnic minority groups
There are a number of barriers that exist for these groups which contribute to this lower level of participation. By working in partnership with relevant groups and organisations, we can help increase inclusive opportunities for participation and support people to overcome these barriers.
